Earth Day is year-round at ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ, with pupils able to choose sustainability and community action projects alongside their academic curriculum.

We are thrilled to share that ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ was recently featured as hub in the spotlight by Drinkable Rivers, an inspiring initiative to which our pupils actively participate.

In the interview, Dr Stevan Simonovic, Teacher of Chemistry at ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ, discussed the dynamic range of socially and environmentally focused projects that form a rotating roster for our pupils. For example, some days, they head to a garden allotment in Hertford Heath to connect with nature; others involve spending time at a local care home, fostering intergenerational bonds; and on different occasions, they learn sign language to promote inclusivity.

Our pupils are also gearing up for exciting sustainability efforts, including plans to achieve the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag Award. This internationally recognised accreditation celebrates young people’s meaningful environmental actions and underscores ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ’s commitment to fostering responsible global citizens.

Well done to Dr Simonovic and our dedicated pupils for their ongoing contributions to these vital community and environmental projects!

We are delighted to share that ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ SciTech has been shortlisted for a RIBA East Award.

Presented by the Royal Institute of British Architects, the RIBA East Awards celebrate the very best examples of architecture across the region, recognising buildings that demonstrate innovation, sustainability, and design excellence.

At ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ, our ambition is to provide pupils with the very best facilities for all aspects of their education. Opened in 2024, the Science and Technology Centre has doubled the size of the School’s previous provision, featuring state-of-the-art laboratories, advanced IT suites, and dedicated robotics and design technology spaces. The building also includes twenty interconnected teaching and seminar rooms and an outdoor courtyard, creating an inspiring environment that encourages collaboration and innovation.

²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ SciTech is home to pioneering research, including the prestigious Stan-X project, a groundbreaking genetic study in partnership with Stanford University. Pupils work on university-level research that contributes to efforts to find cures for diseases such as diabetes and pancreatic cancer, a remarkable opportunity for young scientists.

Sustainability was at the heart of the design, with solar panels, green roofs, ground-source heat pumps and cross-laminated timber.

All shortlisted projects will be visited by the RIBA East Award judges ahead of the winners being announced at the ceremony in May.

It was a fantastic day for our VEX Robotics teams on Friday, with pupils competing at two regional events.

Our Metals teams headed to Stowe School, while two Plastics teams travelled to Colchester to take on strong opposition.

The two teams at Stowe dominated much of the day, remaining unbeaten through numerous rounds. Both progressed to the elimination stages with the Middles boys, Demitrios, Poyraz, James, Jasper, Seb and Freddy, delivering an exceptional performance to reach the final, narrowly losing to the top-ranked side. Their consistent progress suggests that it is only a matter of time before they secure their first tournament win.

Meanwhile in Colchester, the teams showcased their newly upgraded designs. Despite a few early challenges, the Removes team, Xander, Cariana, Grace and Tori, delivered an outstanding performance, remaining unbeaten to win the regional competition and qualify for the National Championships in March. A brilliant achievement and hopefully the first of many teams to reach this prestigious stage.

We are delighted to share that the Legends Tennis Centre has now joined ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ, further strengthening the role of tennis within our vibrant sporting community.

The Centre’s superb facilities include four indoor and four outdoor courts, all featuring a high-quality acrylic surface, similar to that used at the Australian Open. Pupils will therefore benefit from a true Grand Slam quality bounce as they train and compete.

Our new Director of Tennis, Francisco Ruiz Lopez, is driving the continued growth of tennis across the School, inspiring both increased participation and competitive success. He is now joined by the talented coaching team at Legends, bringing an exciting new depth of expertise and quality to our pupil tennis programme.

The tennis centre will also continue to have a community outlook, teaching the game to local children as well as housing an adult membership who play, train and compete locally as a club. Our goal is to both develop young players through the Legends community programme and attract young players into the School who will be able to compete internationally on the tennis stage.

We look forward to sharing more tennis news with you throughout the year.

At ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ, we are filled with immense pride as we celebrate the extraordinary achievements of one of our own – Oscar Piastri (Kipling, 2020).

As a Formula One racing driver, Oscar has not only reached the pinnacle of motorsport but has also embodied the values and spirit that we strive to nurture in every ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ pupil.

Oscar’s journey with us began when he joined ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ from Melbourne, boarding in Kipling House where he quickly became known for his humility, composure and work ethic. His time at ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ was marked by a balanced commitment to both academic and athletic pursuits, with our supportive environment helping him to thrive on and off the track.

In 2025, Oscar delivered a season of near-flawless drives, claiming multiple victories and finishing third in the Drivers’ Championship. This year has also seen him awarded ‘The Don Award’ – Australia’s most prestigious sporting honour. His achievements have brought immense pride to the entire ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ community, as we see in him the very best of what our school stands for – excellence, integrity and the courage to chase one’s dreams.

Oscar Piastri is not just a sporting icon; he is an inspiration to current and future Haileyburians. His story reminds us that with dedication, support and the right environment, remarkable things are possible. We look forward to continuing to celebrate his success and the legacy he is building on the world stage.

As our Master, Eugene du Toit says, “We are incredibly proud of Oscar Piastri’s achievements. His composure, resilience, and ability to thrive under pressure are qualities that reflect the very best of ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ, and his success inspires our whole community to aim high and pursue their dreams with determination.â€Â

We are delighted to share the wonderful news that ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ has been awarded the Gold AI Quality Mark by the Good Future Foundation.

This national accreditation recognises excellence in the thoughtful, responsible and impactful use of AI in schools and we are extremely proud to be among its recipients.

During the assessment process, the Foundation commended ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ for our research-driven and forward-thinking strategy. They highlighted the clarity of our vision for why AI matters in education and how it connects to our curriculum, our teaching and learning practices, our approach to digital wellbeing and literacy, and the skills young people will need for the future world of work.

We were particularly pleased that the assessors recognised the strength of our governance and review processes, as well as our commitment to adapting and refining our approach as this fast-moving field develops. At ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ, AI is not treated as an isolated tool but is thoughtfully integrated into wider digital innovation and subject planning, always with the aim of enhancing pupils’ learning and supporting staff.

Achieving the Gold AI Quality Mark is a significant milestone for the School, and we look forward to sharing our learning and best practice with the broader education community. As AI continues to evolve, we remain committed to ensuring it brings real, tangible benefits to teaching and learning at ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ.
